The short version

What we collect

What you write

The notes you save, and any conversation you have about a note. This is the heart of the app and it belongs to you.

Profile details from earlier versions

The app no longer asks for profile details. If you gave any in an earlier version (such as role or current focus), they are no longer used for anything, and they are deleted with your account.

Account & technical data

An anonymous account identifier (via Firebase Authentication) used to associate your data with your device — no name or email is required to use the app. We also process basic technical data needed to operate the service (e.g., app version and error logs). If you subscribe to Plus, we receive your subscription status and transaction details from Apple or Google Play, linked to your account by an anonymous token; we never see your payment details. If you choose to link Sign in with Apple or Google, we also store the email address and name that service shares, so you can sign back in on another device.

How we use it

We do not use your personal content for advertising, and we do not sell it.

AI processing

To write your daily thought, weekly page and replies, the notes you save are sent to our AI providers, Google (Gemini / Google Cloud Vertex AI) and Anthropic (Claude), which process them to write a response. Under their business terms, neither uses your content to train its models, and we don't train any models of our own.

The daily topic notes everyone sees are written from public news, found with Google Search. Writing them uses no one's personal data.

How the app is used

To learn which parts of Constant Float are helpful, the app counts how often features are used (for example, opening Looking back or listening to a poem) and sends those counts once a day. We also use Google Analytics for Firebase for the same purpose; it assigns the app an anonymous ID and may infer a rough location from your IP address. We never send what you write, we don't use an advertising identifier, and nothing is used for ads or tracking across apps. You can turn this off anytime in Settings → Share usage statistics.

How it's shared

We don't sell or share your personal content. We rely on a small set of service providers who process data only to run the app:

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

Storage & retention

Your notes are stored on your device and on our servers, on every plan, because your daily thought is written on our servers. On the free plan, that server copy is used only to write for you: it is not restored to a new or reinstalled device, which relies on your phone's own backup (iCloud on iPhone, Google backup on Android) instead. With Plus, your notes also sync to your other devices and restore from our servers. We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete a note it is removed, and when you delete your account we delete your associated data, except where we must retain limited records for legal or security reasons.

Your choices & rights

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but privacy is a core design goal, not an afterthought.

Children

Constant Float is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll post the new version here and update the date above; material changes will be surfaced in the app.
